Your conversion rate is the percentage of visitors to your store who actually buy something. You calculate it by dividing the number of sales (or buyers) by the number of visitors, over a set period.
Why it matters to you as an artist:
- It tells you how effectively your store turns interest into income. Two artists can have the same traffic but very different earnings, and conversion rate is usually the reason.
- It separates a traffic problem from a selling problem. If lots of people visit but few buy, the issue is your store, not your reach.
- Small improvements compound. Lifting your conversion rate means more sales from the audience you already have, with no extra ad spend or followers.
A worked example:
- If 1,000 of the right people visit your print drop and a handful buy, your conversion rate is the buyers divided by the 1,000 visitors, expressed as a percent.
- Track it for every drop so you build your own baseline.
What to do next:
- Use your store or web analytics to record visitors and sales for each sale or drop.
- Note your conversion rate each time, then compare across drops to see what moved it.
- Treat it as a core number alongside traffic and revenue per drop. Once you know it, you can experiment deliberately rather than guessing.
Conversion rate is the single clearest signal of how well your storefront is doing its one job: turning a viewer into a collector.
