It depends on how the product reaches your store. There are two paths, and they behave differently on purpose.
Standalone products arrive as drafts
When you push a product on its own — from the Products page or the product edit screen, not as part of a drop — it's created in Shopify as a draft, not an active product.
That gives you room to polish the title, description, metadata and SEO in Shopify before anyone can find it. When you're happy, set it to Active in Shopify and it goes live on your store.
You'll get an email titled "Your products are in draft" with a direct link to your store's draft products list, so nothing gets forgotten.
Two things to know:
- We never change the status of a product you've already pushed. If you set a product to active, later edits pushed from creativehub stay active; if you deliberately keep one as a draft, pushing edits won't activate it.
- The status badge in your Products list shows whether the product is synced to your store, not whether shoppers can see it — a freshly pushed standalone product reads as on-store here while sitting as a draft in Shopify.
Products in a drop go live
When you publish a drop, its products are made active on your store. This is deliberate: your drop page can't be previewed or verified unless the products on it actually resolve.
Once you've checked your drop page and you're happy, you can set those products to draft in Shopify so they can only be reached through the drop page itself — the publish emails include a reminder about this.
And if you later add a draft product to a drop page, publishing that drop flips it to active automatically, so the page always works.
In short
- Push a product by itself → arrives as a draft, you make it live when ready.
- Publish a drop → its products go live so the page works; set them back to draft afterwards if you want them hidden outside the drop.
