A letter insert is your own A4 PDF that ships in the package alongside the print. You design it yourself and upload it — there is no in-app letter composer. Add one while building the drop, or after publishing via the Letter insert tile on the Edit Options hub.
Where to find it
- During the wizard — the Personal Letter Insert step. Say yes (Yes, include letter) when asked, then upload or pick a letter on the Upload Your Letter card.
- After publishing — the Letter insert tile on the Edit Options hub.
- Your library — letters you've uploaded before live in the Media Library (left sidebar → Media Library), ready to re-use on any drop.
Add a letter
Pick from your library
If you've uploaded letters before, they show under Previously uploaded letters on the step. Click one to apply it. Your default letter (the starred one) is pre-selected automatically.
Upload a new one
Click Upload your letter and choose an A4 PDF. That's the only accepted format. The file is validated on upload; pages within 7% of A4 are auto-cropped to fit, and anything else is rejected with an error.
Once uploaded, the letter is selected for this drop and added to your library automatically — no separate save prompt. It then appears in the Media Library and on the library list of every future drop.
Cost
- Shown on the step as <price> + VAT per letter, with the price resolved to your billing currency (£2.08 is the GBP fallback when live pricing hasn't loaded).
- The charge is per unique insert, per order — not per print. If a customer buys several prints from the same drop with the same letter, only one copy ships and you're charged once.
What goes in the PDF
You build the letter outside Escher and upload the finished A4 PDF. Keep it personal: a thank you, the story behind the work, care instructions, links to your other drops or socials. It's printed on high-quality paper and included with each order.
Skip the letter
Answer No, skip this when the Personal Letter Insert step asks "Do you want to send a personal letter insert to your clients?". The drop then ships without a letter and the per-letter cost is removed. (You can revisit the choice later from the Letter insert tile on the Edit Options hub.)
A different letter per artwork
You can attach a different letter to each artwork in a drop (size variants share the artwork's letter). Handy for multi-artist drops or sets where each piece gets its own note.
