How to upload artwork to a drop

uploadartworkmedia library

The artwork step of the wizard is titled Select artworks for this drop. You either create a new artwork (a fresh upload or an image from your media library), or pick a product you've already used.

Two top-level choices

The card opens with two buttons — Create new and From existing products. Nothing else shows until you pick one.

Create new

Choosing Create new reveals a second pair of buttons: Upload new image and From media library.

Upload new image

  1. Drag-and-drop your files onto the upload area, or click to choose. The accepted formats and size bounds are shown in the upload hint: JPEG, PNG, or TIFF, 10MB–250MB.
  2. Multiple files at once is supported.
  3. Each upload runs through the file service, which: - Stores the original at full resolution in cloud storage (R2) — this is what the print is composed from (products.artwork_url). - Generates a 1500 px preview for the wizard UI and the Shopify hero image. - Generates a 500 px thumbnail for cards and lists.
  4. Progress shows per file. A green tick means the upload succeeded.

From media library

If you've uploaded an image before, you can reuse it without uploading again:

  1. Choose From media library.
  2. Search or browse the grid of your previously uploaded images.
  3. Click one to add it to the drop. Images already in this drop are greyed out.

From existing products

If you've published artworks in previous drops, reuse the product itself:

  1. Click From existing products.
  2. Search or scroll the grid of your past products (it lazy-loads as you scroll).
  3. Click one or more to add them.

Picking the existing product means the same Shopify product is updated rather than a duplicate created.

File requirements

  • Format: JPEG, PNG, or TIFF.
  • File size: 10MB to 250MB.
  • Minimum resolution: at least 2 megapixels. Smaller images are rejected on upload (see below).
  • Colour space / dpi / bit depth: see How to prepare files for print for the full print spec.

If a file is too small

The server enforces a hard minimum of 2 megapixels. An image below that is rejected outright — it is not warned about or auto-resized.

When this happens:

  • The artwork row shows the rejection reason, e.g. "image 500x400px is below the 2 MP minimum".
  • A toast appears: Couldn't use "" with the same reason.
  • Continue stays blocked until you remove the rejected file (the X on its row) and replace it with a higher-resolution master.

There is no print-size warning and the Pricing card does not adjust on upload — fix the file and re-upload.

After upload

Each artwork moves to the next step (Artwork Details) where you set titles. Uploads still in progress, or sitting in an error state, block Continue.

Adding more later

Upload several artworks at the start, or add more later via the wizard's artwork step in Resume / Edit. Removing an artwork from a published drop is possible but breaks any saved-cart links to that variant — see How to add or remove artworks from a drop.
