How to set up a holding page (pre-launch)

coming soonearly access

Before a drop's launch date, the public Shopify page shows a holding page (a "coming soon" page) with a countdown and an email signup form. At launch it reveals the store automatically; when the sale ends it becomes an email-capture "missed out" page. Configure it in the wizard's Pre-sale holding page step, or via Edit Options → Holding Page Settings.

There is no on/off toggle — the holding page exists whenever the public page has a future launch with a countdown.

Publishing produces two Shopify links:

  • Early-access link — no holding page. Email this to your list so they can buy before the public launch.
  • Public link — this holding page plus countdown. It opens to everyone at launch, then becomes the "missed out" email-capture page once the sale ends.

What you configure

The card exposes a hero visual and three text fields.

Hero visual (5 options) — pick one. The chosen visual is used on both the holding page and the "missed out" page.

  • Slideshow, No Crop — all artworks, uncropped.
  • Slideshow, Cropped If Req. — all artworks, cropped to fill.
  • Video hero — upload an MP4 or WebM, fitted to height.
  • Uploaded image — upload a JPG, PNG or WebP, fitted to height.
  • Product shots — a slideshow of landscape product shots. These only become available after you publish to Shopify.

Customise your Holding-page text — shown on the public page before launch, above the email signup. Defaults to "Be first in line. Join the early access list to shop before the public launch."

Customise your sign-up thank-you message — shown on the public page straight after a visitor joins your early-access list. Defaults to "Thank you for your submission!"

Customise your "sale ended" message — shown on the public page after the sale ends, alongside the email signup for your next drop. Defaults to "You missed this drop. Leave your email to hear about our next one."

What appears on the holding page

  • The hero visual you chose above.
  • The drop name and a launch countdown.
  • An email signup form. Submissions post to Shopify's built-in customer form and tag the contact newsletter, so captured emails land in your Shopify customers list. After submit, a "Thank you for your submission!" success message persists for the session.

When the drop launches

At the launch date/time, visitors to the public link see the full sale page with the buy button enabled. People you sent the early-access link to can already buy before then (per your sale schedule and early-access window).

When the sale ends

The public page reverts to the "missed out" state: the same hero visual, your "sale ended" message, and the email signup form so visitors can join the list for your next drop.

Connection to Growth Campaigns

The holding page is a lightweight per-drop capture. To capture subscribers as a standalone marketing effort not tied to a specific drop, use Growth Campaigns instead. To do both, pair a Growth Campaign with the drop's early-access window.
