Adding framing to an Artful Gallery print is a multi-step decision tree: how it's presented, frame type, moulding, then glass / window mount / hanging. You reach these cards from the order journey (select images in the library → Order Prints). Each step filters the next based on what's compatible.
Step 1: Framing & Mounting card
The Framing & Mounting card asks "How would you like your print presented?" with four options:
- Print only — just the print, no frame or mounting.
- Bespoke frame — custom built to your dimensions; continues to the Frame Type card.
- Archival mounting — museum-grade mounting on acid-free board (see How to add mounting on AG).
- Pre-made frame — marked "Coming soon" and not yet selectable.
Choose Bespoke frame to frame the print.
Step 2: Frame Type card
Pick from four types:
- Standard Frame — classic, fully customisable, glass + window mount available.
- Box Frame — deep, modern, gallery feel.
- Floating Frame — print appears to float, paper edge visible.
- Tray Frame — shallow tray, no glass, ideal for canvas / dry-mounted.

Step 3: Moulding card
Pick a moulding via the Material dropdown then the Profile dropdown. Options depend on frame type — Standard has 22 choices; Box / Floating / Tray have smaller subsets.

Step 4: Frame Options card
For Standard frames, configure:
- Glass — None, Standard, or Anti Reflective Art.
- Hanging Option — D-Rings & Cord (default), Mirror Plates, Strap Hangers, or No fixings.
- Window Mount Colour — None, Off White, Bright White, Ivory, Cream, Black, or Grey. Picking a colour reveals Window Mount Size.
For Box / Floating / Tray, glass and mount options are simpler or absent (Tray has neither glass nor window mount).
Step 5: Mounting (separate)
To dry-mount the print instead of framing, pick Archival mounting on the Framing & Mounting card and choose a substrate on the Mounting card — Aluminium, Dibond, Acrylic Reverse, Foamboard, Foamex, or MDF. See How to add mounting on AG.
Pricing
Each framing decision adds to the order total. The price updates live as you progress, and the final cart total is confirmed by the server quote at checkout.
Common combinations
- Gallery-grade modern photography: Box Frame + White — Thin moulding + Standard glass.
- Traditional fine art: Standard Frame + Oak — Wide moulding + window mount + Anti Reflective Art glass.
- Canvas or dry-mounted print: Tray Frame + Black moulding (no glass needed).
- Textured paper showing deckle edge: Floating Frame + Oak — Thin Rounded.
Skip framing
You can always skip framing entirely and order just the print — useful if you have a local framer you prefer, or you're framing yourself.
