Social proof and how to use it
Social proof is the evidence that other people value your work: buyers, fans, press and peers. It matters because buying art online involves trust, and seeing that others have already bought, loved or featured your work reassures a hesitant buyer that they're making a good decision, and helps them justify the purchase to friends and family.
Ways to put it to work:
- Share happy-customer photos. Encourage buyers to post their print on the wall and tag you, then reshare it. Save these into a highlight so future buyers can easily find them.
- Show the work selling. During a drop, signalling that editions are going (or have sold out) creates confidence and urgency at once.
- Reshare press and features. Any coverage, tags or mentions validate your standing as an artist. Resharing them is a modest, effective way to show momentum.
- Surface reviews and testimonials. Genuine words from collectors carry weight; feature them on your store and in your content.
- Highlight collaborations and recognition. Working with respected artists or being shown in notable contexts borrows and builds credibility.
Keep it honest. Social proof only works long-term if it's real; never fabricate sales or testimonials.
Action: set up a simple system to collect proof: ask every buyer for a photo of their print in place, save tagged Stories to a dedicated highlight, and keep a folder of testimonials and press you can weave into future drops and product pages.
