How to print signatures and edition numbers onto artwork

signatureedition number

Printed signatures and edition numbers are set on the finishing step of the drop wizard. It's a single card titled Signatures, numbering and mount boards (or just Signatures and numbering if none of your variants are framed), and it sits after the limited-editions step.

After publishing, you change the same settings from the edit hub tile labelled Mount, signature & numbering.

Two toggles

Apply my signature to each print

Tick Apply my signature to each print to print your saved signature onto every print in the drop. A thumbnail of the current signature appears below the toggle; use Change signature to pick a different one from your library.

The signature prints into the bottom border of the print, at the right-hand end.

If you tick this with no signature selected, the wizard blocks Continue until you pick one.

Number each print (e.g. 1/50)

This toggle only appears when at least one variant is a limited edition. Tick it to print each print's unique number into the bottom border, at the left-hand end (the opposite end to the signature).

The number only shows on limited-edition variants. Open editions never carry a printed number, even with the toggle on.

Size, font and contrast

With a signature or numbering enabled, you get these controls. A live preview on the left shows the result on the artwork and size you choose.

  • Size of signature — Small, Medium, Large or XL. Sets how large the signature prints relative to the artwork.
  • Numbering size — Small, Medium, Large or XL. Sized relative to the signature, so it scales with it.
  • Numbering font — cycle through the bundled handwriting fonts to match the number to your signature. Your choice is saved on the signature.
  • Signature / print numbering contrast — High, Medium or Low. We pick light or dark ink automatically from the background: dark ink on a white border, light ink on dark artwork.

Mount boards

If any variant is framed, the same card also carries the mount-board controls. These apply to framed variants only. See the framing and mount-board guidance for details.

Borders

The signature and number print inside the bottom border you set on the borders step. If the border is too small — or set to No border — there's no room for them. Set a wider border if you want printed signing and numbering.

Signature files

The wizard accepts a PNG or JPEG signature. A transparent PNG on a clear or white background works best. SVGs aren't accepted here.

Vs hand-signing

Printed signatures are convenient but lack the authenticity collectors prize for high-end editions. For premium drops, skip the printed signature, set a wider border, and arrange a hand-signing workflow with theprintspace. That needs a manual setup — contact help@theprintspace.co.uk.

Signatures vs COAs

These are independent:

  • Printed signature on artwork — your signature on the print itself, set here.
  • COA signature — your signature image on the certificate that ships with the print.

You can do both, just one, or neither.

Signature file formats

Any PNG or JPEG works — including scans with a solid white background. The white background is removed automatically, on the print and in the wizard preview alike. The preview places and colours your signature exactly as the printed output will, so what you see on the preview is what ships.
