The Card on file section lets you save a payment card that theprintspace charges for production costs at fulfilment time (per-order print, frame, COA, letter, packaging, shipping). It's the card-on-file flow used by every published drop.
You'll find it under Settings → Financial.
Why a card on file
When a customer buys from your drop, the order flows through to theprintspace for fulfilment. The fulfilment cost is charged to your saved card — not the customer's. Your customer pays you (via Shopify) the retail price; you in turn pay theprintspace the wholesale cost.
Without a card on file, fulfilment fails when the order tries to charge, and the order is delayed until you add a card.
How to add a card
- Open Settings → Financial.
- In Card on file, click Add card. The Stripe payment form opens inline.
- Enter card details and click Save card.
- Stripe verifies the card via a SetupIntent (off-session usage) — no charge is made, just an authorisation.
- The card is now saved. The row shows the brand, last 4 digits, and expiry.
Stripe branch routing
Your card is stored on one of three Stripe accounts based on your country of residence:
- UK residency → UK Stripe (GBP)
- US residency → US Stripe (USD)
- DE / EU residency → DE Stripe (EUR)
If you change your country of residence, the card on the previous Stripe account is invalidated and you must add it again on the new account.
Replacing a card
When a card is saved, the row shows the brand, last 4 digits and expiry, with a Replace button next to it.
To swap in a new card (for example after the old one expires), click Replace. This starts a fresh setup inline — enter the new details and click Save card. You don't need to remove the old card first; saving the new one replaces it.
Removing a card
Click the trash icon next to the saved card row to detach it from your Stripe customer.
After removing, future fulfilment charges fail until you add a new card.
Post-publish prompt
If you publish a drop without a card on file, a dialog titled Add a payment card for orders appears. It's non-blocking — the drop still publishes whether or not you add a card. You can add one inline there and then, or click I'll add it later to skip, which sends you a reminder email. Until a card is on file, orders fall into the existing failed-payment flow at fulfilment time.
