Drops automatically organise variants into pricing tiers based on each artwork's aspect ratio. Understanding this structure helps you make sense of the Pricing card and explains why some artworks have different sizes than others.
Aspect ratios
Each artwork has an aspect ratio — the proportion of width to height (e.g., 3:2, 4:3, 1:1, 5:4). The system detects this from the uploaded file's dimensions and groups artworks of the same ratio together for pricing purposes.
A drop with multiple ratios produces multiple pricing groups — for example, a drop with two square artworks and three landscape artworks produces:
- 1:1 (square) group — one pricing structure for the squares.
- 3:2 (landscape) group — a different pricing structure for the landscapes.
This is because frame sizes and recommended print dimensions differ across ratios.
Size tiers
Within each aspect ratio, there are up to four size tiers:
- Small — entry size; lower price, broader appeal.
- Medium — most popular; balances price and visual impact.
- Large — gallery scale; premium price.
- Statement — extra-large premium; only appears for ratios where the recommendation engine detected a viable Statement size from the artwork's resolution.
Statement is opt-in — it only shows up for high-resolution artworks that look great at extra-large dimensions. If your artwork is too low-resolution for Statement size, the system silently drops that tier.
Framed vs Unframed
Each ratio + size tier is sold in two flavours:
- Unframed — print only.
- Framed — print mounted in a pre-made frame at theprintspace.
Framed sizes match the closest available frame in stock — they may differ slightly from the unframed version. The Pricing card shows the dimensions for each tab separately.
Why this matters for pricing
- Same size, different ratios can have different prices because frame sizes and paper coverage differ.
- Statement is rare — don't expect every drop to have it.
- Consistent price across tiers — when overriding prices, keep the price ladder logical (Small < Medium < Large < Statement) or buyers find it strange.
Viewing the structure
Open the Pricing card in the wizard. The card layouts groups by aspect ratio at the top. Within each ratio, two tabs (Framed / Unframed) and rows for Small, Medium, Large, and (if applicable) Statement.
The Edit Options → Prices flow uses the same structure. Edit any cell inline to override the recommended price.
