How far ahead to promote a drop
Give yourself a proper run-up. People rarely buy the first time they see a work; they need to encounter it repeatedly before they feel confident enough to purchase. A multi-week build-up lets you create that familiarity, grow anticipation and capture early-access sign-ups before the deadline arrives.
A practical rhythm looks like this:
- Early weeks: the why. Share your motivations, inspiration and creative process. You're building connection, not selling yet. Drive viewers to your email list for advanced access.
- Middle weeks: the reveal. Tease, then show the work and the prints. Communicate quality, scale and the limited nature of the edition.
- Final week: save the date. Use native reminder tools on Instagram and TikTok, and email your list with the exact launch date and time.
- Launch and run. Keep promoting actively for the full duration of the sale.
How long? A build-up of several weeks before launch, followed by a clearly time-boxed sale, works well for most artists. Plan one full day at the start of each week to map content, then a focused block each day to execute it.
