Start selling free --- # Auctions: self-serve art auctions for artists URL: https://creativehub.io/auctions/ New: original artwork auctions # Your art, your auction, your brand. Self-serve art auctions. Auction artworks such as paintings, drawings, exclusive prints, sculptures, books etc. All from a store page carrying your domain, under your brand. Set up takes minutes. Set up your auction See how it works [image: An auction lot on an artist's own store: their logo, a countdown to the close, the estimate and the bidding box] (Your store, your brand, your auction. This store and artwork © Dave Plantain) Why an auction ## Let your collectors set the price. An auction turns your most engaged followers into competing bidders. There is a clock, there is a reserve if you want one, and the price goes where the room takes it. creativehub is the self-serve way to auction your own art: you run the auction from your own store page, and we handle everything behind it. ### Your brand, not a marketplace The auction lives on your creativehub store with the same design tools as a drop. Your name is on the page, the invoice and the parcel. Nobody else's. ### Real auction mechanics Secret maximum bids, automatic increments, anonymous bidders, and a soft close that stops last-second snipers. Bidders need no account, just a card and an email. ### Serious bidders only Every bidder places a deposit on a card before a bid counts, so the people bidding on your work mean it. ### We handle everything else Payments, invoices, tax on the invoice, the legal terms, collection and delivery, returns and any disputes. You pack the work, or we send a courier. ### Sell in three currencies Run your auction in GBP, EUR or USD, with bidders on any device, anywhere. ### Prints on the same page Put your print products under the lots, so the auction becomes a sale for your whole catalogue. Print orders go through our production as usual. What you can auction ## Any original you have made. Auctions are open to every kind of artist, because an original is anything you made once. - Paintings, drawings and works on paper - Sculpture, ceramics and textiles - Rare signed one-offs for photographers - Skateboard decks, customs and whatever else you have created - Signed prints, sold alongside the lots [image: The same auction on a phone: the countdown above the work, with the artist's name beneath] How it works ## Set up in minutes. Really. 01 ### Add your lots Up to twenty works. Photos, a short description, an estimate, a starting bid and a reserve if you want one. Pick your sale window, up to five days, and your page design. 02 ### Publish and tell your followers Before it opens, the page shows a countdown and anyone can follow the auction to get alerts. When bidding opens, every bid and every outbid goes out by email, and by WhatsApp if they want it. 03 ### We close it and pay you Lots close one after another with a soft close. The winner's card is charged, the invoice goes out in your name, and delivery is arranged. You get a statement for the auction and the proceeds by transfer. Want the detail, from adding your first lot to the money landing in your account? Read how auctions work, step by step. Questions ## The things people ask first. **Q: What does it cost?** Our commission is 20% of the hammer price, taken from the proceeds. There is no buyer's premium: your collector pays their winning bid plus delivery and any tax, nothing more. If a lot does not sell there is no fee. **Q: Do bidders need an account?** No. A card and an email address. Their address is taken at the card step so delivery can be priced. Bidders appear anonymously to each other and nobody's maximum is ever shown. **Q: Who handles delivery?** The buyer pays for delivery, priced for their address and charged when the lot closes. You pack the work within a week of payment and either send it yourself or we book the carrier. Everything is tracked and insured, and larger or high-value pieces go by fine-art courier that we arrange. **Q: What about payment, tax and the legal side?** The winner's card is charged as soon as the lot closes, tax due on the sale is added to the buyer's invoice at checkout, and the conditions of sale are built into the page. Bidders accept them before they can bid. **Q: Can I sell prints as well?** Yes. Your print products can sit under the lots on the same page, picked from your existing catalogue. Print orders go through the normal checkout and our production. **Q: How many lots, how long?** Up to twenty lots and a sale window of up to five days, in GBP, EUR or USD. Lots, prices and dates are fixed once bidding opens; the page design, your profile and the products on the page can change any time. ## Ready to auction your first piece? That matters to us. Take ownership of your brand, your following and your collector base. [image: Josh Hernandez in his studio, holding a print of one of his charcoal drawings] (Josh Hernandez in his studio.) We are passionate believers that artists should stay in control of three things: their work, their brand, and their following. In fact, that's why we exist: we're here to help you do just that. The moment your creativity has an impact on others, regardless of how many people, is a valuable one. That value should be protected and nurtured. Making revenue from your work is important, but it must be done sustainably and in a way that deepens the connection with your audience over time. ## Followers are here for you, and your art When someone chooses to follow your work, it's because it meant something to them. Art is an expression of the human experience, and when someone follows you, they connect with that vision. Social media companies would like to insert themselves into that connection to control it and profit from it. Our ethos is different. We're the partner in the background that helps drive your brand, grow your engagement and subscribers, and develop your collector base. Everything is done in your name, with your brand. No "data sharing", no subtle insertion into your collector relationships. Just you, and the people who were moved by your work. [image: Billelis in a dark room with a print run of his gold-on-black work laid out on tables] (Billelis with a print run of his work.) ## Our why One of the theoretical groundings of our marketing agency is Simon Sinek's seminal book, Start With Why. If you haven't read it, it's definitely worth a read: it helps you understand why you do what you do, and as a result it makes it easier to communicate coherently with your audience. So here's our why. As founder, I grew up in a family of artists, and I saw how much more artists can achieve when the recognition and the revenue for their work stay with them. I passionately believe artists and creators deserve to be recognised for what they bring to the world, and that this starts with three things: controlling your own brand, owning your own data, and growing real relationships with your fans and collectors. [image: Halie Torris painting in her studio] (Halie Torris in her studio.) ## Everything in your name So creativehub does everything in your brand name. - We grow your subscribers. Your list, your emails, your numbers. - We fulfil your orders under your brand. Your packaging, your letter, your certificate. Everything in the parcel carries your name. - We build your store, on your domain, in your design, for your collectors. - We help you devise marketing campaigns in your own name, and we run them with you. - When you auction creative works or collectibles, you do it under your own name, from your own page. Every decision we make is tested against one question: does this strengthen your relationship with your audience & following? [image: A Caroline Wendelin print, edition 1 of 100, with her signed certificate and the labelled tube] (Caroline Wendelin, edition 1 of 100. Every print leaves us with the artist's own signature, certificate and tube label.) ## Our promise Unless you are planning to retire early and take up golf, being an artist is a lifelong calling. That means we have time. Building a brand that is sustainable means taking the long view. We're not here for the quick buck. We're not a platform trying to "own the art market" or build our brand at the expense of yours. We're in it for the long term, just like you. In 2027 we will celebrate our 20th anniversary and enter our third decade of innovating to help artists grow careers and adapt to new technology. Looking back for a moment, we were one of the first online fine art printing labs in the world, we launched the first art print-on-demand plugin for Shopify in 2014, and we are still the only global fine art printing company with production in the USA, the EU and the UK. And we're not slowing down. Our recent launch of art auctions from your own store is just one of a number of innovations coming your way in the next few months. Here is what that work actually teaches. If you have ever released work quietly, put it on your website, mentioned it once, and waited, you already know the feeling. The work is good. The response is thin. This blog exists to fix that. Over a handful of articles we cover the most useful things we know about selling art prints online. No fluff, and nothing you need to pay for. Before we start, it is worth saying why you can trust any of it. ## Who we are theprintspace was founded in London in 2007 as one of the world's first online fine art print services. In 2015 we built one of the first print-on-demand store integrations for artists. Since then we have opened our own production facilities in London, Düsseldorf and New York, so everything is printed and framed in house. In 2023 we started our own marketing agency inside theprintspace. Since then our team has strategised more than 700 art and print drops for some of the highest selling artists on social media. Everything on this blog comes from that work. It is what we actually see happen, across hundreds of real releases, not theory. ## The four lessons Why print drops sell so much art. What changed in how people buy art, and why a release with a deadline outsells an always-open shop. The content that sells during a drop. The seventeen types of post that do a job, which build an audience, which convert, and when to use each. Your brand, not ours. Why so many services quietly put their own name on your work, and what to do instead. World-class fulfilment, in your name. How the printing, framing and delivery actually works when your brand is on everything. ## If you would rather not wait You can already set up a free store and your first print drop in minutes, marketing plan included. Or start by finding out what your audience is worth: our sales estimator reads your real engagement and projects what a drop would earn you. --- # Blog: Why print drops sell so much art URL: https://creativehub.io/blog/why-print-drops-sell-so-much-art/ Published 2026-09-02 Art buying moved to social commerce. Here is why a release with a beginning and an end outsells an always-open shop, from the team behind 700+ art drops. If you have ever released work quietly, put it on your website, mentioned it once, and waited, you already know the feeling. The work is good. The response is thin. A print drop fixes that, and the reason is not really about art. It is about how people buy now. ## Art buying moved to social commerce Over five years ago we noticed something in our print volumes. A handful of artists were selling far more than everyone else. We assumed it was a pandemic spike. It was not. We went and asked them what they were doing, and they all said the same thing: their audience was on social media, and they were selling directly to it. That is social commerce, and it puts you in control of your collector list, your prices and your brand, without losing a large slice of every sale in commission. [image: An artist showing a framed print to her audience] (Artwork © Lily-Rose Burgess) ## Why a drop beats a permanent shop A shop that is always open asks nothing of anyone. There is no reason to act today, so people do not. A drop is the opposite. It is an event with a beginning and an end. Limited editions, a countdown, a moment your audience can turn up for. Scarcity is what makes art valuable, and a deadline is what turns a follower who likes your work into a collector who owns it. It also gives you something to talk about. Teasers, studio shots, the story behind the piece, the last twenty-four hours. Every one of those is a reason to post, and every post points at the same place. ## And your email list does the heavy lifting Social brings people in. Email is what converts them. In the drops we run, email converts at roughly four times the rate of an Instagram post, so every drop should be building that list as well as selling from it. [image: A collector sharing the print they received] (Artwork © Melvin Werner) ## We have done this 700 times Our agency has now strategised more than 700 art and print drops for some of the highest selling artists on social media. Everything we learned doing that is what our marketing plans are built on, and those plans increase sales by 165%. ## You can set one up in minutes This is the part that used to be hard. Not any more. creativehub gives you a free store, picks your sizes, papers, frames and prices, generates your drop page with its countdown, and hands you a day-by-day marketing plan telling you what to post and when. Then we print it, frame it, and ship it worldwide under your brand. See how the six steps work, or estimate what a drop would earn you. --- # Blog: The content that sells during a drop URL: https://creativehub.io/blog/the-content-that-sells-during-a-drop/ Published 2026-09-03 Our agency studied hundreds of the best-performing reels from artists selling on social media and sorted them into seventeen types of post. Here are the ones that matter most, with real examples. Most artists do not have a content problem. They have a content mix problem. They post plenty, but it is all the same kind of post, so the audience never builds and the drop never lands. So we went and looked. Our agency studied hundreds of the best performing reels and posts from artists selling well on social media, and sorted them into the types that actually do a job. Seventeen of them, on two axes. ## Content that builds the audience This is the work you do before there is anything to sell. It earns the attention you will later ask something of. ### Story and premise Open with a premise the viewer has to see resolved. The strongest hooks promise something in the first second and pay it off in the last. Brooke DiDonato's on-screen premise “photos I took in order of how painful they were” carried a countdown of surreal self-portraits to 15.6M views. View this reel by @brookedidonato on Instagram ### Making-of and process People stay for the making. Long shots of the work coming together outperform the finished piece on its own, almost every time. Margriet's wall-sized ink-and-pencil drawing of dense futuristic architecture reached 7.2M views on close-ups of pen strokes alone. View this reel by @maargriitt on Instagram ### Signature technique The one thing only you do. Show it close, show it often, and it becomes the thing people associate with your name. James Cook typing the Arc de Triomphe character by character on a typewriter: 18.4M views. View this reel by @jamescookartwork on Instagram ### Being an artist The life around the work. Less polished, more honest, and often the post that travels furthest. Caro Wendelin painting with her kids is her biggest reel by far, at 21.7M views. View this reel by @carowendelinart on Instagram ## Content that sells the drop These only work because of the ones above. Used on their own they fall flat, used after a run of good audience content they convert. ### Drop announcement Date, time, edition size. Say it plainly and say it more than once. Assume most of your audience missed the first one. Riona Buthello put a drop date and giveaway on a premise reel that reached 13.1M views. View this reel by @rionabuthello on Instagram ### Drop closing and last chance The deadline is the reason to act. A genuine last call, on the day, is usually the highest converting post of the whole drop. View this post by @polina.bright on Instagram ## The other eleven They cover the reveal, the tease, the materials, time in the making, hand and eye detail, events, recaps, honest scarcity and viewer interaction. Each one has a job, and a moment in the drop where it belongs. ## Knowing the order is the hard part Which is really the point. Knowing the seventeen types is useful. Knowing which to post on which day, in the two weeks around a drop, is what actually moves sales. That is what your marketing plan does. Every drop you create in creativehub comes with a day-by-day plan: what to post, when to post it, and what each post is meant to achieve, from the first teaser through to the final hours. Examples shown are posts by artists we work with, embedded from and linked to their original Instagram posts, with credit. --- # Blog: In the age of social commerce, it's your brand that matters URL: https://creativehub.io/blog/your-brand-matters/ Published 2026-09-05 Marketplaces, platforms and galleries put their name on your work and keep the collector relationship. Here is what to do instead: a free store on your own subdomain, your list, your brand on everything. Here is something worth noticing the next time you sell a print through someone else. Look at the web address your collector lands on. Look at the name on the box that arrives, the compliments slip, the email receipt, the tracking notification. Whose brand is on all of it? Almost never yours. ## Your work, their brand Marketplaces and print-on-demand platforms are in the business of building their own name. Every sale you make sends a collector to their domain, wrapped in their packaging, added to their mailing list. You provided the art and the audience. They kept the relationship. The old world did the same thing. A gallery takes the work, takes half, and the collector becomes the gallery's client rather than yours. That was the deal for a hundred years because there was no alternative. There is now, and it matters more than it used to. In the age of social commerce your audience follows you. They found your work in your feed, they watched you make it, and when they buy it they want to hear from you. Handing that moment to someone else's brand is the single most expensive habit in selling art online. [image: A drop store page carrying the artist's own name] (Artwork shown © Andrew McCarthy) ## So we built the opposite creativehub gives you a free store, and it is yours in the ways that count. Your own address. Your store sits on your own subdomain, so collectors arrive somewhere that carries your name, not ours. No marketplace listing, no shared shopfront, no competing artists in a sidebar. Your own design. Start from a template or paste in your existing website and creativehub picks up your styles and builds the store to match. Your own collectors. Their email addresses are yours. You keep the list, and you keep the right to sell to it again. Your own brand on the parcel. The packaging, the letter, the certificate, the numbering, all carry your name. Nothing that reaches your collector says theprintspace on it. [image: An order packed by hand in the artist's own branding] ## Already have a shop? Keep it If you have built something on Shopify, we are not asking you to move. Plug creativehub into your existing store and it does the same job behind the scenes: your products, your checkout, your brand, and we print and ship each order as it comes in. Either way the principle is the same. You own the shopfront, you own the collector, and your name is on everything they touch. --- # Blog: World-class fulfilment, in your name URL: https://creativehub.io/blog/world-class-fulfilment-in-your-name/ Published 2026-09-06 What happens to an order after your collector clicks buy: in-house giclée and C-type printing in London, Düsseldorf and New York, hand framing, and your brand on everything that arrives. Elsewhere on this blog we talk about why your brand, and not somebody else's, should be the one your collectors remember. That principle is easy to agree with and hard to deliver, because the moment a print leaves your hands it passes through somebody else's. What arrives at the door either builds your name or quietly undermines it. So here is what happens to an order after your collector clicks buy. ## It is printed by us, not brokered out We own our production. London, Düsseldorf and New York, all ours, all working to the same standard. Orders route automatically to whichever is nearest your buyer, which is why there are no surprise import charges for collectors in the UK, the EU or the US. Museum grade giclée on hand picked archival papers from Hahnemühle and Ilford, and true photographic C-type on Fuji Crystal Archive. Eleven professional papers, colour managed end to end, made by printers who care about it. [image: A printer checking proofs on the light table] ## Framed by hand Made to measure conservation framing, and solid wood FSC certified pre-made frames when you want a larger, more affordable edition. Same gallery standard either way, so you can offer both without explaining a difference in quality. [image: Polishing a handmade frame in the framing workshop] ## And it arrives with your name on it This is the part that matters most. Your branding on the packaging. Your letter inside. Your certificate, your signature, your edition number. Nothing in that parcel advertises us. If it is lost or damaged we replace it immediately, at no cost to you or your buyer. And the whole thing, production through to delivery, is carbon neutral, with packaging that is sustainably sourced and recyclable or biodegradable. [image: Kraft postal tubes in the London studio] ## Twenty years of getting this right Twenty years of delivering quality experiences for buyers means we are a brand trusted by over 12,000 artists. The point of all that experience is that your collector never thinks about us at all. They think about you, and about the piece they just unwrapped. That is what turns a buyer into someone who comes back for the next drop. See the full service on our fine art fulfilment page. --- # Blog: How Caroline Wendelin grew to 400,000 followers URL: https://creativehub.io/blog/caroline-wendelin-story/ Published 2026-09-08 Both her parents painted, and both gave it up. Caroline Wendelin’s road back to art ran through five cities and two careers she didn’t want. Caroline Wendelin grew up in a house with two painters in it. She also watched both of them stop. “I saw them give up on art and find more stable work,” she says, “so, for years, I was convinced it wasn’t going to be my path.” She made sure of it: at eighteen she went into the fashion industry, which she didn’t like, and lived in Sydney, Milan, Paris, Barcelona and New York while studying child development. Then she tried working in schools. That wasn’t it either. The whole time, art kept pulling. “I was constantly taking photos of everything, filming, drawing, writing or playing the piano. I felt happy when I was creating.” In 2020 she stopped resisting and went all in: oil paintings drawn from fairytales and fantasy books, and a camera pointed at the easel. [image: Caroline Wendelin at work in her home studio] (Caroline in her home studio) ## Then success set the same trap her parents walked into It worked. Too well. “I had orders for original oil paintings all the time, so I didn’t have any time left to invest in creating prints.” Print buyers were queuing and she was turning them away, because every hour was already spoken for. This is the quiet way art careers end: not from failure, but from a workload that squeezes out the actual art. She had seen where that road goes. “Every hour you save printing is an hour you can spend creating.” Caroline Wendelin ## The turn So she refused to run the factory. The printing, framing and worldwide shipping moved to theprintspace, under her own name, and she rebuilt the selling around print drops: a limited edition, a fixed window, then gone. A drop puts one artwork at the centre of attention, gives her audience a deadline to decide by, and — just as important — gives the marketing a box to live in. Tease, tell the story of the piece, close the window, back to painting. The hours that came back went into the two things that compound: the paintings, and the films of them being made. This is the reel her audience loved most — her, painting, kids in the studio: Watch on Instagram — @carowendelinart [image: Caroline Wendelin] (Caroline Wendelin) ## 400,000 followers later Today @carowendelinart is 400,000 people strong, most of her print releases sell out, and everything a collector unwraps carries her name: her signature, her numbering, her certificate. The relationship her parents never got to have with an audience is entirely hers. Then the success it brought nearly stopped her painting. The story of the drop that fixed it. Halie Torris never set out to be a full-time artist. She trained in graphic design, and in 2019 she started posting her paintings online for the least ambitious reason imaginable: to document the process. The response was bigger than anything she planned for. Her process films are little pieces of cinema — underpainting to final glaze, cut to music, narrated with a vulnerability most artists never risk — and they built a community around work that centres queer women as subjects rather than objects. People didn’t just like the paintings. They felt seen by them. Today @halietorris is over 200,000 followers strong, and it gave her the confidence to leave design behind and paint. [image: Halie Torris holding two of her prints in the studio] (Halie in the studio) ## Then the plot turned on her Here is the twist nobody warns artists about: the thing that nearly stopped Halie painting was that people loved the paintings. “Every holiday season just buried me. I was drowning in shipping tape, boxes, endless runs to USPS, and it stole weeks from my actual painting.” The community ran on her work, and fulfilling the work was eating the hours that made it. The films stopped when the packing started. Success had quietly become the villain of her own story — the same trap that closes most art careers, arriving dressed as a win. “It felt like I was running a shipping company, not an art studio.” Halie Torris ## The turn The fix was not working harder. It was refusing to run a logistics operation at all. Her printing, packing and worldwide delivery moved to theprintspace — in her name — and the selling moved to print drops: one artwork, a fixed window, a real deadline. The marketing became a planned burst with an end date instead of a permanent background hum. Scarcity gave her collectors a reason to decide. The calendar gave her back her weeks. Her first drop sold out. And the drop rhythm fits how she already talks to her audience — tease the piece, reveal it, open the window. Watch her do it: Watch on Instagram — @halietorris ## Whose name is on the tube Look closely at what a collector receives: her monogram on the tube, her signature and edition number on the print, her certificate of authenticity inside. Nothing in the parcel says theprintspace. The community she built by accident still hears from exactly one person — her. ## The studio, returned “Now, fulfillment is handled for me. I get those weeks and months back. My energy is prioritized in front of my paintings... just space to paint, breathe and keep creating, especially during the busy holiday season. My team here at theprintspace is everything to me. They make it feel like a team effort where before I was a one-woman show.” More collections, released more often, filmed the way her audience fell in love with them — painted in the time success used to steal. Auctions are the newest thing you can run from a creativehub store: self-serve art auctions, where you auction your own art from your own store page and we handle everything behind it. This is the long version of how they work: what you do as the artist, what your collectors see and do, how the close plays out, and how the money and the delivery are handled. If you want the short version, it is on the auctions page. ## The shape of it An auction on creativehub is a timed sale of your original works, run from your own store page, under your own brand. You can put up to twenty lots into one auction and give it a sale window of up to five days. Bidders do not need an account, only a card and an email address. When the clock runs out, the highest bid on each lot wins, the winner's card is charged, and we take care of the invoice, the delivery and the payout. Our commission is 20% of the hammer price. Nothing is added on top for the buyer, and a lot that does not sell costs you nothing. [image: An auction page on an artist's own store: their logo top left, a countdown to the close, and the work] (The auction page: your logo, your countdown, your work. Demo store and artwork © Dave Plantain) ## Part one: setting up an auction ### 1. Open Sell and choose Create auctions In your seller app, go to Sell and pick Create auctions. Auctions are on for every creativehub account, so there is nothing to apply for. ### 2. Add your lots For each work you add a title and a description, the medium and the year, the dimensions and weight, a short note on condition, up to eight photographs and, if you like, a ten-second clip. You pick the hero image, the one that fronts the lot on the page. Then the numbers. A low and a high estimate, which bidders see. A starting bid. And, if you want one, a reserve, which is the lowest price you will accept. Bidders never see the reserve. They only see whether it has been met. ### 3. Set the window and the currency Up to five days, in pounds, euros or dollars. Lots close one minute apart in lot order, so the order you put them in is the order your collectors will experience the close. Put the piece you want as the finale last. ### 4. Design the page The auction lives on your store, with the same design tools you use for a drop. Your logo, your colours, your artist profile and your FAQs. If you have connected your own domain, the auction sits on it. You can also put prints from your existing catalogue under the lots, so people who do not win, or do not bid, can still buy something. Print orders go through the normal checkout and our production as usual. ### 5. Decide who packs and who ships You tell us where the lots ship from and who packs them: you, or a courier we book. There is more on this below, because it matters for how you get paid. ### 6. Preview, accept the terms, publish You can preview the whole page privately before anyone sees it. To publish you accept two things: the consignment terms, which are your agreement with us, and the conditions of sale, which are the terms your buyers agree to when they bid. They are short. Read them. Once published, the page shows a countdown to the opening, and anyone can press Follow this auction to leave an email address or a mobile number. That is your pre-sale list, and it starts growing before a single bid is placed. ### 7. Tell your audience The countdown does a lot of the work, but it needs an audience pointed at it. Post the page when it goes live, again the day before bidding opens, again when bidding opens, and on the final day. Everyone on the pre-sale list is told automatically when bidding opens and when the close is near, so your job is to get them onto that list. One thing to know before you publish: once bidding opens, the lots, the prices and the dates are fixed. The page design, your profile, your FAQs and the products under the lots can change at any time. ## Part two: what your collector sees [image: A lot page: the work on the left, and on the right the estimate, the current bid, the closing time and the bidding box] (A lot page: the estimate, the current bid, the closing time and the bidding box. Demo store and artwork © Dave Plantain) ### Landing on the page Your collector arrives the way they arrive at any drop page: from a link in your post, your story or your email. They see the lots, the estimates, the countdown and your story. There is no account to create and nothing to sign up for. ### Following the auction Anyone can follow an auction without bidding. They leave an email address, or a mobile number if they want WhatsApp alerts (text messages where WhatsApp is not available). Followers are told when bidding opens, when there is an hour left, when there are ten minutes left, and what the lots sold for. If they bid, they are also told the moment they are outbid, and when they have won. ### Placing a bid There are two ways to bid. Set as my maximum lets them enter a private ceiling, and the system bids on their behalf only as much as is needed to stay in front, in set increments. Bid now puts the price straight to that figure. At the next minimum there is just one button. The first time someone bids, they go through a card step. A deposit of 20% of their maximum bid is held on the card, not charged, and the bid counts the moment the deposit is held. If they raise their maximum, the deposit rises with it. It is released when the lot closes unless they win, when it comes off their invoice. After that first step, raising a bid is a single click. The deposit is there for one reason: every bid on your work comes from someone who has shown they can pay. You do not get phantom bidders, and you do not get a winner who disappears. [image: The same auction on a phone: the countdown above the work, the artist's name beneath] (Most bids arrive from a phone, usually straight from your story. Demo store and artwork © Dave Plantain) ### What bidders see of each other Bidders appear as Bidder 1, Bidder 2 and so on. Everyone can see the current bid and the bid history. Nobody's maximum is ever shown, not to other bidders and not to you. The page also remembers nobody: a bidder is recognised only in the tab they bid from, and the link in their email brings them back. Nothing is left on a shared computer. ### Being outbid The outbid email goes out straight away, with a link that lands them back on the lot. From there, raising is one click. This is where most of the action in an auction comes from, and it is why the close is designed the way it is. ## Part three: the close Lots close one minute apart, in lot order. A bid in the last two minutes of a lot pushes its close back by two minutes, and again if needed, for up to an hour. So nobody wins by sneaking a bid in at the final second. The auction ends when the bidding ends. When a lot closes, the highest maximum wins, provided the reserve has been met. The winner pays the price shown on screen, not their maximum. If two people set the same maximum, the one who set it first is in front. ## Part four: the money ### The winner pays automatically As soon as a lot closes, the winner's card is charged the balance: the hammer price, plus delivery to the address they gave, plus any tax, less the deposit already held. Every other bidder's deposit is released. The buyer gets an invoice and you get a sold email telling you what to pack and where it is going. If the card fails, the buyer gets a payment link and 48 hours to settle, with reminders along the way. Very large balances are paid by bank transfer instead of by card. ### If a winner does not pay After 48 hours the sale is cancelled, the buyer forfeits their deposit, and they are blocked from bidding again. The lot is then offered to the next highest bidder at the amount of their last bid, for 48 hours, on the same terms. They are under no obligation to accept. You keep the work throughout, and nothing ships until payment has cleared. ### What you receive The hammer price less our 20%, plus your share of the delivery charge, and a packing allowance if we booked a crate. There is no buyer's premium, so what the collector pays is what you see on the page plus their delivery and tax. Tax due on the sale is added to the buyer's invoice at checkout, as with any creativehub sale. You are paid by bank transfer 35 days after delivery, which is the window in which the buyer can raise a problem (more on that below), and you get a statement for each auction. ## Part five: delivery The buyer pays for delivery. It is priced for their address from our rate card and charged with the balance at the close. Where the rate card cannot price a lot, an oversize piece or a courier job, we quote it by hand and the buyer pays it by link before the lot ships. Import duty into another country is the buyer's. You pack the work within seven days of payment, and you photograph the front and the back before packing. Those photographs are your evidence if anything is ever disputed, so do not skip them. Then either you ship it yourself, in which case you receive the delivery charge less the transit insurance we arrange, or we book the carrier for you. Everything is tracked and insured. Very high-value or especially fragile lots always go by a fine-art courier that we arrange. ## Part six: if something goes wrong A buyer can report a problem from the link in their delivery email, within 14 days of delivery, with photographs. We compare their photographs with the ones you took before packing, decide each case ourselves, and tell both sides why. There are three kinds of outcome. Not as described. We collect the work at no cost to the buyer, the buyer is refunded once it is back with you, and you are not paid for that lot. Change of mind. Consumers in the UK and EU have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of delivery. They send the work back at their own cost, and once you confirm it is back as it left, the buyer is refunded. Business buyers and buyers elsewhere do not have this right: their sales are final. Damaged or lost in transit. The buyer is refunded and you are paid in full, straight away. The transit insurance covers it. Keep the packaging. Your payout is paused while a report is open and resumes on its original date if the claim is rejected. When you publish, you confirm that each work is your own, authentic, yours to sell and its first sale. Copyright stays with you. ## The quick answers What can I auction? Originals: paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, unique prints, the one-off creations you have made. First sale only. How many lots, for how long? Up to twenty lots, a sale window of up to five days, in GBP, EUR or USD. Do I have to set a reserve? No. If you do, bidders never see it, only whether it has been met. What if a lot does not sell? It stays with you. No fee, no commission. Can people bid before it opens? No. Until the opening time the page shows the lots and the countdown, and people can follow the auction to be told when bidding starts. From the moment a lot opens, Set as my maximum does the job an absentee bid used to do. Can I change things once it is live? The design, your profile, your FAQs and the products under the lots, yes. The lots, the prices and the dates are fixed once bidding opens. Where does the page live? On your creativehub store, on your own domain if you have connected one. Who is the buyer buying from? You. We run the auction, take the payment and hold the money as your agent, and the invoice names you as the seller. That is the whole thing. Setting one up takes minutes, and the auctions page has the short version if you want to send it to someone. --- # Help centre index URL: https://creativehub.io/help/ - About anonymous checkout on creativehub: https://creativehub.io/help/about-ag-anonymous-checkout/ (You can place an order without creating an account. creativehub signs you in anonymously the first time you upload — you get a real user account behind the scen) - About creativehub API access: https://creativehub.io/help/about-ag-api-access/ (creativehub provides a public REST API for programmatic ordering — useful if you're building a storefront, automation, or integration that needs to place creati) - About the creativehub cart: https://creativehub.io/help/about-ag-cart/ (The creativehub cart accumulates items as you configure prints.
